Latest Update:- We can now confirm that Sridevi died due to the drowning in a bathtub but it remains unclear how that happens. Either Sridevi fell unconscious or asleep after or before drowning, that remains a mystery.

Who is Sridevi? - About Sridevi

Sridevi or Sridevi Kapoor is not an unknown name for Indian cinema followers. Her full name was Shree Amma Yanger Ayyapan but after married, it is Sridevi Kapoor. Bollywood actress Sridevi was a veteran actress of Indian Film Industry with plenty full of excellent as well as commercially successful movies in her name. She was an actor par excellence. She was very talented, graceful and beautiful actress and she is considered to be one of the mega performers and so named the first female superstar of Bollywood. She was an actress as well as a producer. She not only starred in Hindi Cinema but also in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam films.

Her performance in some of the blockbuster Hindi movies like Chandni, Lamhe, Sadma, Tohfa, Khuda Gawah, Nagina, Chaal Baaz, Gumrah etc. is extremely praised by the public as well as critics. She was a legendary actress with utmost talent in her. She was amazing in delivering her acting capability, dancing, comic timing, her emotions in the movies. She always delivered her best in all the roles and characters played in her films. She was the most leading actress not only in Hindi movies but also in Tamil and Telugu films in her era 1980s and 1990s. She was considered as “the nation's sweetheart” and also one of the highest earning actors of her era. She also became the top choice heroine of legendary film director of Hindi Cinema Mr. Yash Chopra and worked in his some of the finest movies ever made like Chandni, Lamhe etc.

Her early life:

Sridevi was born on August 13, 1963, in South India, Sivakasi, Tamil Nadu, Madras with her father Ayyapan, a lawyer by profession and mother Rajeswari. Her father was Tamil and mother was Telugu. She has one sister and two stepbrothers. Her actual name was Shree Amma Yanger Ayyapan. She was married to the film producer Boney Kapoor in 1996. She has two children with him.

She started her acting career at a very early age at four as a child artist. Her debut Hindi film was Julie in 1975 but she started her career from the Tamil film Thunaivan in 1969, as a child artist in both the films. Her first Telugu film was Maa Nanna Nirdoshi in 1970. Then she continued her performance in many other Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam films. She also owns her first award “Kerala State Film Award” for Best Child Artist from the Malayalam film Poompatta (1971). Her first film in leading role was Tamil film Moondru Mudichu in 1976 and her first Hindi movie as an actress was Solva Sawan in 1979. But she started gaining her fame from the 1983 movie Himmatwala pairing veteran actor Jitendra. Sridevi and Jitendra were the much liked on-screen couple at that time.

Her relationship: Sridevi's husband and affairs

Sridevi married producer Boney Kapoor on 2 June 1996. He was also the producer of her films like Mr. India, Judai, Mom (her home production) etc. Boney Kapoor first married to Mona Shourie and have two children actor Arjun Kapoor and Anshula.

Sridevi had a very controversial relationship with Boney for many years. It was said that Boney fell in love with Sridevi after watching her Tamil film during the late 1970s and so approached her for a lead female role in Mr. India in hope to get close to her but she was dating Mithun Chakraborty (Bollywood actor) at that time. So, Boney Kapoor married Mona and was in happy marriage life. But later Sridevi’s relationship broke with Mithun as he was not ready to be separated with his wife Yogeeta Bali. Then she became close with Boney and fell for him. It is a known fact that Sridevi and Boney had an affair which was named as an extramarital affair. She got pregnant before their marriage. That’s why she was criticized for breaking a long time happy relationship of marriage. Mona and Boney were married for 13 years but Boney left Mona and kids for Sridevi and he married with Sridevi in a temple.

Then after, Sridevi and Boney shared a great bonding and considered one of the power couples of Bollywood and were married for more than 21 years.

The story of their affair also goes like this: Sridevi and Mona were good friends and Sridevi was staying in their (Mona’s and Boney’s) house. It was also rumored that Sridevi ties rakhi to Boney considering her brother. (According to the Hindu culture, Rakhi is a thread which sister binds on the wrist of the brother on the festival known as Raksha Bandhan). But later she got pregnant and everything went wrong between Mona and Boney.

Sridevi's children:

She had two children Jhanvi Kapoor, born on 6 March 1997 and Khushi Kapoor born on 5 November 2000. Jahnvi Kapoor will soon be seen in Karan Johar’s Bollywood film “Dhadak” opposite Ishaan Khatter (Shahid Kapoor’s brother). The release date of her debut movie is said to be 20th July this year. The film is directed by Shashank Khaitan. This film is stated as an adaptation of the acclaimed Marathi film "Sairat".

Her Death, When and how did Sridevi die?

This Bollywood Superstar Sridevi died of a massive cardiac arrest (heart attack) on 24 February 2018, Saturday in Dubai, U.A.E. which has been confirmed by her family member actor Sanjay Kapoor, who is a brother of her husband Boney Kapoor. She was there to attend her family function, a marriage ceremony of her nephew, with hubby Boney Kapoor and younger daughter Khushi Kapoor. She was only 54 and was leading very active and successful life.

However, as per the new updates, the cause of death found to be the accidental drowning in a bathtub but not confirmed yet. We will update that here once everything is confirmed.

She was awarded the Padma Shri, the country’s fourth highest civilian honor in 2013 by the Indian Government.

She was voted as “India’s Greatest Actress in 100 Years” in the national poll conducted by CNN-IBN in 2013 on the occasion of the centenary of Indian cinema.

She was voted as "Most-Admired Bollywood Actress" by Vuclip, the world's largest mobile research company in 2012.

She won five Filmfare Awards and those are:

    • 1977 - Special Award - South for 16 Vayathinile
    • 1992 - Best Actress Award for Lamhe
    • 1990 – Best Actress Award for ChaalBaaz
    • 1991 – Best Actress Award (Telugu) for Kshana Kshanam
    • 1982 – Best Actress Award (Tamil) for Meendum Kokila

Other Awards won by Sridevi:
