How Spiders Navigate Their World?
Spiders, even though they have six or eight eyes in the majority of cases, don't use sight much. Their major senses, the Australian Museum tells us, are touch, vibrations, and taste, and these are what they use to navigate their world and hunt for food.
Spiders, with over 50,000 identified species, are relatively varied, and they present us with a broad variety of behaviors. They court their partners using arbitrary items, whereas others, such as Japan's Joro spiders, are capable of floating on silk parachutes through the air. Certain tarantulas actually swim, and there are even strange reports of spiders spinning outlandish webs.
In spite of all these incredible capacities, spiders are intuitive and not logical. "Spiders are wild creatures and don't view humans as guardians," said spider specialist Sebastian Echeverri.
He explained that spiders, sensing danger—loud noise, movement, or other shadowy things—tend to flee rather than approach. But because they are small, they might not always realize a human being is one giant creature. They might instead react to discrete stimuli, like a hand or a step, without knowing these are part of a person.

Aforementioned, even the originator of the TikTok video has explained that the concept of spiders taking shelter in humans was a joke and not a proven scientific fact.
Echeverri also dispelled the myth, likening a spider sprinting towards a human to a human sprinting towards something as frightening as Godzilla. "If a spider is threatened, the last thing it's going to do is move towards the threat," he explained. Rather, spiders are more likely to retreat or flee when they detect a potential threat near them.
The sole exception to this rule would be domesticated jumping spiders. When trained using food rewards, these spiders would come closer to their owners out of curiosity or to receive a snack. But even in those instances, Echeverri noted that the spider is not looking for protection—it is just driven by curiosity or food.
So, Why the Video Became Popular?
The TikTok video caught people’s attention because spiders are both scary and interesting to many. Even though the claim in the video was a joke, it made people think about how we see spiders and how little we actually know about their behavior.
Spiders may be small and often seen as creepy, but they are complex creatures with their own ways of living. However, they do not see humans as their protectors.
