I received a text message that looked like it was from my bank’s fraud department. It said there was a login from a different device, a Samsung Galaxy in El Paso, Texas. I don’t live in Texas and I don’t use a Samsung phone.

The message asked me to reply if it was me. I replied no, but then I decided to call my bank directly to be safe. The bank helped me change my login details and told me my account was still secure.

Later, while I was asleep, I got two more messages saying the same thing. After I woke up, I received another identical message. I called the bank again, and this time they asked for more details about the messages.

I told them I had already changed my password. They said they would add extra security to my account, so I would need to answer additional questions when logging in.

Finally, I blocked the number that sent the messages and reported it as a scam.
